I specialize in therapeutic massage which goes WAY beyond “just relaxing” massage. Therapeutic massage attends to specific injuries such as rotator cuff injury, low back pain, neck pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, sprained ankles, etc.
The training I received from Charlie Watson at Advanced Massage Therapeutics here in Louisville is unique. It addresses 20 of the most common injuries, not only attending to the pain in the muscles and surrounding tissue, but also incorporates strengthening and stretching into the massage when necessary, in order to insure optimal results.
I feel that my experience as a yoga instructor really informs my work as a massage therapist, and how I can help the clients who come to me seeking relief from wear and tear injuries, or from injuries due to accidents.
Through years of experience, I have gained the ability to look at clients and see how their posture is either helping or hurting the situation. Many times, posture has a HUGE impact on joint stress, as well as muscle imbalance. I am then able to offer strengthening and stretching advice (tips) to work on at home, as well, in order to bring more balance to their bodies. This addition of strengthening and stretching both as part of the massage, and as “homework”, can actually facilitate the healing of the injury.
The other modality I use when doing massage is Jin Shin Jyutsu. For example, a frozen shoulder can benefit greatly from opening the energy pathways where blockages may be contributing to the physical symptoms of a frozen shoulder. In order for muscles and soft tissue to perform optimally, proper blood and oxygen must be able to flow freely. Jin Shin Jyutsu can help.
